Cannot recommend highly enough

March 29, 2023

I have participated in a number of sewing and textile art courses run by Jen. I started 4 years ago with a beginners sewing course followed by an improvers sewing course. I completed a beginners dressmaking course and much to my astonishment managed to successfully sew a skirt! My main interest is however in the textile art workshops Jen has run – mostly pre Covid times but I am delighted to read in the most recent newsletter that she will be offering more textile art courses this year. I highly recommend the free motion embroidery workshop. For experienced – and not so experienced sewers – it offers a new skill to add to the sewing skills toolbox – like drawing with a sewing machine! I’ve already signed up to the print, collage, stitch workshop in May and was delighted to read in the newsletter that there will be a couple of textile art courses in the summer school programme this year – am particularly interested in the print, stitch, quilt course.

Jen is a very skilled and knowledgeable teacher – of sewing, dressmaking and all things textile art. She puts even the most inept aspiring sewer (me) at ease, instills confidence, has a wealth of practical tips up her sleeve and is always calm and reassuring. She is not just an excellent teacher, she has a range of examples of her own sewing and amazing textile art on display in the workshop.

Gosh Jenny, be careful or my head won’t fit through the door. Thank you so much for that amazing review. I’m looking forward to catching up when you come in May, and yes ‘Print, Stitch, Quilt’ is definitely up your street.

Gelli Printing - Learning a lovely new technique

December 30, 2024

I spent a fantastic day learning the technique of Gelli printing with Jen and a lovely group of like-minded ladies. Jen is a great teacher and paced the session very well for everyone who was there. We used paper initially and then moved onto fabric sharing our materials and resources with some lovely results. My aim for the day was to learn another way of preparing some backgrounds for textile works – and thanks to Jens support and others ideas this achieved over and over again.

Thanks Jen – I loved the session and am looking forward to experimenting with my own Gelli plate . Hope to be back for some more of your lovely sessions.

Hi Mvairi, thanks for your lovely review. I’m glad you enjoyed your day learning how to gel print. I use mine for creating paper and fabrics for textile art and I look forward to catching up with you again.

Overlocker for beginners

December 16, 2024

Fantastic day course. I have had my overlocker for 2 years and after a couple of attempts at using it felt it was something I was never going to master, despite being a sewer for more than 40 years. Jen packed a lot of information into this one day course – far more than I ever imagined we would be able to cover, and it was fantastic. I’m by no means anywhere near expert now but I feel so much better equipped to tackle more than just ‘edging’ fabrics to give a nice finish. It has given me the confidence and basic knowledge to use my overlocker and in time I feel sure I will master the techniques Jen taught us on the day. I would highly recommend everyone who is unsure/scared of their overlocker to go along to Jens class.

Hi Tricia. Thanks for that lovely review. You’ve highlighted exactly what I aim to do with that class; and that’s get those pesky machines out their boxes and start using them! They’re not so scary once you start. I’m so glad I was able to help and please let me know if you have any questions or issues with it in future.

Overlocker - Now my Assistant

December 12, 2024

I attended the ‘Know your Overlocker’ course on 6 December 2024. Prior to that day I had owned my overlocker for 6 years and had used it twice. I honestly found it a scary piece of machinery. However, having attended the course ran by Jen I now feel completely confident in using it and can’t wait to start my next project.

What made the difference was being educated in what the machine was actually doing, what could go wrong and how to fix things. The course also informed on different stitches and techniques. I found Jen, the course tutor, to be knowledgeable and able to answer any questions I had.

I will certainly attend future courses ran by Artisan Stitch.

Hi Dee. Thank you for that fabulous and informative review. I’m so glad you now consider your overlocker to be your ‘assistant’ instead of that ‘big scary thing’. That’s exactly what I aim to do in this class. Let’s get those OL’s out their boxes and taking their rightful place on the sewing table next to your sewing machine. Glad to have helped and I look forward to catching up with you again.

Trust the process… 💯% recommend Jen Skedd!

Beginners Sewing Course XL has given me the skills to do so much more! This group class was so much FUN! Jen is an incredibly experienced teacher and will lift your level in a relaxed and friendly environment. Her attention to detail and little tips throughout the course will build your confidence one step at a time. We learned all the basics for the sewing machine, sewed seams, hems, zippers and so much more! Our sewing projects were challenging and rewarding.

THANK YOU JEN!

I can’t wait to visit Artisan Stitch Studio again!
