“Anything worth doing, is worth doing slowly” – Mae West

Join us for a delightful workshop to create a unique slow-stitched needlebook.  Immerse yourself in the art of slow stitching and sustainable crafting. In this hands-on event, you’ll learn how to create a beautiful, personalized needlebook using fabric scraps and easy hand embroidery stitches. Whether you’re new to hand embroidery or looking for a creative way to upcycle old fabrics, this workshop offers the perfect opportunity to learn new skills and create something both practical and beautiful.

What You’ll Learn:

During the ‘slow-stitched needlebook’ workshop, you’ll discover the joy of slow stitching—a mindful and meditative form of hand embroidery that encourages creativity and relaxation. You’ll be guided step-by-step through the process of making your own needlebook, a charming and functional sewing accessory that will keep your needles organized and easily accessible. This would also make a lovely Christmas gift for a special ‘crafty’ friend – just sayin’.

Key Techniques to make a hand-stitched needlebook

– Simple Hand Embroidery Stitches: Perfect for beginners, we’ll utilise the Japanese art of Boro, using running stitch.  You’ll learn a variety of easy embroidery stitches, variations of chain stitch (detached chain, lazy daisy), and French knots. These stitches will be used to embellish your needlebook, adding a personal and decorative touch.
– Upcycling Fabric Scraps:  Do you have leftover fabric scraps from past projects? This workshop is a great way to give them a new life! You’ll use these scraps to create the cover of your needlebook, resulting in a unique, eco-friendly creation. If you don’t have any fabric scraps of your own, then I have plenty you can use.
– Felted Wool Sweater Pages: The pages of your needlebook, designed to hold your needles safely, will be made from felted wool sweaters. Not only does this add a lovely texture, but it’s also an excellent way to upcycle old sweaters that might otherwise go to waste.

Why Join the Slow-Stitch Needlebook Workshop?

If you love the idea of combining sustainability with creativity, this workshop is for you. Here are just a few reasons why you’ll want to sign up:
