I learned to use a sewing machine when I was 7 years old. So I know children can learn to sew when they’re very young. What’s more is they learn faster than adults and retain the information longer. Sewing assists in developing good hand/eye co-ordination, manual dexterity, stimulates the creative imagination and aids in project planning. It gives a sense of achievement and self-worth. I believe that it’s such an important life skill that all children should learn – Girls and boys.
However, it’s important that they get suitable sewing lessons. My sewing lessons for children focus firstly on safety. Then we do some fun exercises to learn how to use the sewing machine. Easy children’s sewing projects are fun and are a great way to learn basic sewing techniques.
There are only a small number of children in each class so each can receive lots of attention and they are carefully supervised.
All fabrics provided.
Artisan Stitch holds a Certificate of Excellence and is rated Best Sewing Classes in Edinburgh. Winner of the UK Enterprise award in 2020 for Best Sewing Classes. Winner of ‘Best Private Sewing Education & Training provider 2021’.
I can advise on buying a sewing machine for children (or yourself!) I recommend Pembertons who are a specialised sewing machine retailer. They will be happy to chat to you about the best sewing machine for your child’s needs and you can try before you buy.
