Inspiration Flags
Inspiration Flags is an easy and fun workshop to create a personal inspiring decoration to brighten your sewing space. It’s also a great way to use up some of those little fabric scraps, pieces of lace and ribbon too. This is a new workshop for 2024 to cheer you through these dark January days.
Course description
Inspiration Flags is an opportunity to use your Free-Motion Embroidery skills, if you’ve already done that course, otherwise you can use normal straight stitch, zig-zag or any of the decorative stitches on your sewing machine. You can even hand-stitch it if you prefer. This workshop is suitable even if you haven’t taken any of my creative textile workshops before. No ‘drawing’ or previous art experience is necessary.
This workshop will teach you how to use a sewing machine as a creative tool. Whether you want to quilt, create mixed media art, make cards, or do applique or embroidery on your clothes, this course will show you a variety of ways to do it. You could add some hand embroidery, buttons or charms to your flag too.
Your Inspiration Flag can also become a tribute to a loved-one if you use clothing or textiles relating to them, or you could add photos and memorabilia to remind you of them. After all, Grannies always had the wisest words.
Please check here before booking as once purchased, tickets are non-refundable.
Who is Inspiration Flags aimed at?
Level: Intermediate (Basic sewing machine experience required – you must be able to wind bobbins and thread the machine unaided, and know how your machine controls work as a minimum. If you’re unable to do that, then I recommend you take one of my Foundation sewing courses first).
What will I learn?
How to use any old scraps of fabric and make a decoration that will brighten, cheer and inspire you.
- selection of a background
- painting the background
- collage of fabric scraps
- applique fabric scraps and selecting a ‘feature’
- adding your personal inspirational phrase
