This Family sewing day for adults and children will teach you how to use a sewing machine and learn some basic sewing skills. Then there’s a lovely project to sew to practise your new skills. Please book 1 place per pair (1 adult & 1 child (under 16).
I learned to sew around the age of 7, on my mum’s Singer machine (it would now be referred to as a ‘vintage’ Singer). Some of my happiest memories are those evenings I spent sewing with Mum. I’d love to get families participating in crafts together again, and forming family bonds. This easy upcycling project will show you the value in existing fabrics harvested from used clothing.
What’s included:
- How to use a sewing machine safely and confidently
- Practice sewing straight lines, curves and corners
- Make a handy folding ‘tote’ bag for school books or sports kit.
- Sewing machines, and equipment provided (but you can bring your own if you have any)
- I am insured and hold a PVG (Disclosure Scotland) certificate
Sewing is a fantastic activity for children. It assists in developing good hand/eye co-ordination, manual dexterity, stimulates the creative imagination and aids in project planning. It gives a sense of achievement and self-worth. I believe that it’s such an important life skill that all children should learn – girls and boys. And if they can sew alongside Mum or Dad, then that’s even more fun. My sewing lessons for children focus firstly on safety. Then we do some fun exercises to learn how to use the sewing machine.
Please check here before booking as once purchased, tickets are non-refundable.
