Craft Sewing Course
The Craft Sewing Course is a short improver-level course to practice your sewing skills. This course is designed as a follow-on from my Beginners Sewing Course XL for those who’d like to continue sewing but who don’t want to make clothes. It’s also a great refresher if you’ve not sewn for a while.
- Your choice of easy sewing projects including an envelope cushion (and a patchwork option), a quilted zipped pouch, a sewing organiser roll, a cross-body bag and plenty others. You can also try any of the projects from the Beginners Sewing Course XL again (reversible tote shopper, tablet case or zipped pouch) if you feel you could improve on your first one.
There will be a strong focus on upcycling; project options will include how to turn old jeans into an on-trend denim skirt, or how to make a patchwork cushion from fabric remnants. Charity shop curtains or bedding can become handy shoppers.
You will need to bring your own fabric for your project – I’ll provide details when you book). A small selection of Fat Quarter packs are for sale in the studio – please check for availability.
Artisan Stitch holds a Certificate of Excellence and was rated Best Sewing Classes Edinburgh in 2019. In 2020, they won the UK enterprise award for Best Sewing Classes. The Best Private Sewing Education & Training award followed for 2021/22. The only Edinburgh sewing classes recommended by Queen Margaret University.
Sewing machines are provided or you can bring your own if you have one. If you are considering buying one, then I’m happy to give advice on what to look for. I recommend Pembertons, the specialist sewing machine dealer.
You will need a basic sewing kit: fabric scissors, small embroidery-style trimming scissors, paper scissors (for cutting patterns), pins, tape measure, quick unpick, fabric marking pens/pencils
My blog pages contain lots of informative articles about stuff you need to know about sewing. Why not spend a few minutes swotting up? Here’s a couple of links to get you started.
