Christmas Stocking
Make this vintage-style Christmas Stocking and kick off your Festive decorations!
This charming vintage-style stocking is a lovely decoration for your festive hearth, and is one of my most popular Christmas-themed classes. It’s quite easy to make if you’ve got basic sewing skills. It takes only a small amount of fabric, although it’s easy to scale up too.
Use pre-printed craft cottons or be creative and upcycle whatever you can find. Possible fabric combinations include denim, linen, hessian (old coffee sacks or potato bags). It also looks great in checks so look for old lumberjack-style shirts. Or you could also make it in tartan for a traditional Scottish Christmas. You can use plain poly-cotton fabric in a coordinating colour, or ivory-coloured curtain lining. The top band can be made in fur or fleece. Decorate the stocking with ribbon, cotton tape and add buttons, bells or beads to the hanging loop.
Make one for every member of the family and applique their initial on the front. And what about using a ‘paws’ print fabric for the furry family members too?
The shops are full of gaudy, mass-produced christmas decorations. But this bespoke vintage-style christmas stocking is quaint, quirky, and kicks everything else out of the park.
