Artisan Stitch: About us
Artisan Stitch provides award-winning Edinburgh sewing classes and creative textile art workshops. Now in it’s 10th year, it was founded and run by Jen Skedd, a lifelong sewist (since age 7) and degree-trained textile artist/designer. Jen Skedd
Qualifications: HND Stitched Textiles & Fashion – Edinburgh’s Telford College
BA (Hons) Textile Design – Heriot Watt University
Jen initially had a career in Finance but her first love has always been sewing. She took a career break to study HND in Stitch Textiles, then a Degree in Textile Design, where she specialised in knit. After graduation, she worked in knitwear manufacturing for a top-end cashmere producer in the Scottish Borders. Then she spent some time selling her own range of knitted and felted accessories direct to the public and to around 44 galleries and boutique shops around the UK. Her knitwear designs have been bought by high street chains and the Italian fashion house, Valentino.
Her embroidery work has been exhibited widely and has sold to private collectors. She was a member of the Embroiderers’ Guild until its affiliated branch network folded in 2022 and is now a member of the Quilters’ Guild and its specialist sub-sector the Contemporary Quilt Group, and Contemporary Scotland Textiles.
Jen has a passion for all types of sewing and textile arts. She has over 45 years sewing experience across general dressmaking, tailoring and bridal disciplines, and over 30 years in teaching/mentoring roles. Jen spends her spare time indulging in her favourite creative textiles skills (free-motion embroidery, wet & dry felting, fabric dying & printing, mixed-media arts)
